This pattern is not signed. This and the next two medals were produced in 1888 but are listed with Dufferin’s first presentation medal for ease of reference. The obverse is very similar to the previous obverse (884.1.1) and is believed to be a product of the Wyon/Pinches workshop.
Lord Dufferin’s term as Viceroy was due to expire in December 1889 and he was created Marquess of Dufferin and Ava on November 12, 1888. His surprise decision to resign left this pattern (and 888.1.3 and 884.1.4) unfinished. |
