In 1931 the population of Calcutta was 1,485,582; Allahabad, 183,914 and Surat well below 100,000. These population figures fit extremely well with the frequency of occurrence of these medals. For the bronze specimens those of Calcutta are common, Allahabad less common but not really rare while Surat examples are difficult to find. While metal examples of 919.3 and 919.4 have not been seen by the author but have been confirmed in correspondence with M.I.H. Ewing. They are variously described as cupro nickel, nickel brass, and as having a slightly brassy tone. |
