The Calcutta Mint die impression register states the first issue was on 21 March 1827. It is believed, however, that this medal was produced in 1824 and there is a record of a gold medal being issued in 1825. The Calcutta Mint reference may have referred to the silver medal only. The new society may have ordered a gold medal and when it saw how membership was increasing and success was assured ordered silver medals as well. |
