Signed : DANTZELL FILS, rev. Around border : ECOLE DES SCIENCES ET ARTS INDUSTRIES DE LYON. (Science & Industrial Art School Lyon). In centre a wreath. Between tips of wreath : LA MARTINIERE. Wreath with space within for award (Award noted : MATHEMATIQUE /1RE DIVISION / 2E MENTION / CHOUZY / (JACQUE) / 1840.
Type I obverse has the ‘short curl’ bust (short curl under nape of neck), larger letter continuous legend, signed Dantzell Fils and small wreath reverse. Silver of Type I not traced but almost certainly exists as silver medals of the later types exist. The two bronze specimens examined awarded in 1839 and 1840. |
