Description | : | obv. In centre a montage of a crowned shield of Britain with rays behind, three shields of the colonies Australia, India and Canada, all on a mantle. On a ribbon below : UNITY PEACE CONCORD, around border : TO COMMEMORATE THE COLONIAL & INDIAN RECEPTION AT THE GUILDHALL – LONDON 1886 – Signed : ELKINGTON & CO LONDON, rev. In centre an interior view of the Guildhall. On a left panel the city mace on a branch, on right panel the city sword. In exergue on a ribbon with city shield : DOMINE DIRIGE NOS (Guide us Lord).
The reception was held at the Guildhall on 25 June 1886, when the Colonial and Indian representatives were welcomed to the city of London by the Lord Mayor John Staples. |
