Description:obv. Hardinge's coat of arms with supporters and motto all redesigned in a simpler, less cluttered arrangement. The coronet of a baron now replaces the helmet of the previous medal atop the shield. Supporters to the achievement are much larger, rev. At top the breast badge of the Star of India order. Below : PRESENTED BY / LORD HARDINGE / VICEROY OF INDIA / TO, flanked to left and right by palm trees. Below legend, a scroll for recipients name. At bottom a floral spray. Signed : Hamilton & Co.
The reverse is a redesign of Minto’s Type II reverse and both the obverse (arms) and this reverse were to be continued through all the Viceroys up to Mountbatten and independence with the exception of Willingdon and Wavell. Suspended from a claw and loop. Hardinge also had a shooting presentation medal.
