Usually fitted with a lug and ring. Goculdas Tejpal’s father had gone to Bombay from Kutch as a peddler early in the 19th century and Tejpal himself became one of the richest Hindus in Bombay; his first fortune made in cotton. He suffered a setback in the ‘share mania’ of 1865 but ‘Maharajah’ Goculdas (as he was called) made a complete recovery. His benevolent institution. Goculdas Tejpal Charities, maintained seven schools and one temple in Bombay plus five schools and a temple in Kutch. It also looked after about 100 destitute persons of the Bhatia (his sect) community with monetary assistance. He supported numerous other charities including the Goculdas Tejpal Hospital. |
