Description | : | obv. Similar to 836.3.1 but divided legend now reads to left of head : CL. MARTIN, to right of head : FONDATEUR. At bottom : LABORE ET CONSTANTIA . Signed : DANTZELL F., rev. Similar to 836.3.1 but wreath larger and bushier, legend similar, except ECOLE now has an acute accent, letters are thinner taking up less space, no stop at end of LA MARTINIERE. Space in centre for engraving (Award noted : 1878-79 / COURS DES JEUNE FILLES / 1RE DIVISION / COMPTABILITE / 2ME MENTION / DULAC / LOUISE).
Type II has a redesigned bust the chief recognition feature is a large curl extending further under the nape of the neck, the legend is divided, the signature is DANTZELL F., and the reverse has the thicker wreath.
The bust of Claude Martin is believed to have been redesigned in the early 1850s. The earliest award noted, a bronze medal, in 1855. |
