Description:obv. Diademed Wyon head of Queen Victoria, left, around border : VICTORIA D: G: BRIT: REG: FID: DEF: (Victoria, by the grade of God, Queen of the Britains, Defender of the Faith). An ornamental spray below neckline. Signed : W WYON R.A., rev : Woman crowning another with wreath as she and child bring agricultural gifts. In background, animals and agricultural and industrial implements. Legend above : JUBBULPORE EXHIBITION. In exergue : 1866. Signed : R.A. ST. DES: J.L. SC:
Struck at the Calcutta Mint, Forrer states that R.A. ST. was a signature used by Thomas Stokes, a British medalist who worked mostly in Australia. J.L. has not been identified. William Wyon’s signature below Victoria’s head is growing rather faint on this medal, a precursor to future days when it disappeared completely. This occurred on Calcutta and Bombay mint dies. Copper examples sometimes have: SPECIMEN, impressed over W. Wyon signature, Jubbulpore was one of the larger cities in the Central Provinces. Now known as Jabalpur, near Bhopal in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh.
