Description:obv. Semi-nude Indian lady sitting with flower in right hand and plaque with geometric design in left. Lily pads in foreground with palace arches behind. Signed : J.& S. A.B. WYON SC., rev : Around border : BENGAL PHOTOGRAPHIC SOCIETY * In centre a laurel wreath with space within for award.
A silver medal noted engraved : FOR PORTRAITS / TO / H. LOCKHARDT / 1873. See 948.27.3 for a similar medal for the Photographic Society of India and 864.3 for first Bengal Photographic Society medal. The Bengal Society was set up in 1856 by many keen photographers among whom were the Maharajas of Jaipur, Alwar and Burdwan. The Maharaja of Jaipur’s photographs can be seen in the Jaipur Museum where many are on exhibit.
