Britannia, standing by prone lion, shaking hands with native woman, around border : DURING THE VICEROYALTY OF H.E. LORD NORTHBROOK G.C.S.I. Signed in exergue : STRUCK BY HAMILTON & CO / JEWELLERS / CALCUTTA
Hamilton & Co. usually had their medals struck at the Calcutta Mint but it has not been confirmed that this medal was struck there. The only specimen of the gold medal noted was in a case made by Fattorini & Sons Ltd. Of Birmingham, thus this firm was probably the distributor for the United Kingdom. |
