Description:obv. Conjoined crowned busts of King George and Queen Mary, left, around border : King George V and Queen Mary, rev : Depiction of buildings with cloud above, around border above : BADSHAHI MELA, below buildings : - DELHI - / CORONATION DURBAR 1911.
Medal is not signed but obverse is by Fattorini, identified from a signed coronation piece. Suspended by a ribbon of blue and red separated by a thin white stripe. Various suspensions noted; pierced, claw and bar, pierced with ring and bar. Smaller version or a miniature of approximately 15 mm has been traced but not examined; believed to be silver. Badshahi means ‘emperor’ or in this case ‘imperial’ and ‘mela’ is a fair thus Imperial Fair. In order to allow as many people to see their majesties as possible the fair concept was devised and held below the Delhi Fort.
