Medal is not signed but obverse is by Fattorini, identified from a signed coronation piece. Suspended by a ribbon of blue and red separated by a thin white stripe. Various suspensions noted; pierced, claw and bar, pierced with ring and bar. Smaller version or a miniature of approximately 15 mm has been traced but not examined; believed to be silver.
Badshahi means ‘emperor’ or in this case ‘imperial’ and ‘mela’ is a fair thus Imperial Fair. In order to allow as many people to see their majesties as possible the fair concept was devised and held below the Delhi Fort. |
