| Description | : | obv. East India Company arms consisting of a shield supported by two lions, rampant guardant. On top of shield a small lion, rampant guardant, with scroll in paws. All three lions crowned. On a ribbon at bottom the legend : AUSPICIO REGIS ET SENATUS ANGLIAE (Under the auspices of the sovereign and senate of England), rev. In Arabic : PURSUIT OF KNOWLEDGE IS BETTER THAN THE PURSUIT OF GOLD.
This medal and the next cannot be dated precisely but were completed and sent to Haileybury sometime between 1808 and 1811, most probably in 1809. |
