In 1910, Sheth L.D. Jhaveri, at the suggestion of Labhashankar Laxmidas, established on organization known as the Shri Juia Daya Gnana Pracharaka Fund (Bombay Humanitarian Fund) to educate the public in humanitarianism. The fund was so successful that its supporters converted it into the Bombay Humanitarian League with wider objectives : protect animals, promote vegetarianism, discontinue cruel customs and ceremonies and take up strictly non-political questions of human welfare. |
