Description:obv. In centre bust of McDonald, left, around upper border : JAMES MCDONALD 1867-1902. Signed : VAUGHTON BIRM., rev : Within a wreath of Scotch thistles : SCOTTISH / EDUCATION / SOCIETY / BOMBAY: / ESTABLISHED / MDCCCLXVL.
Only specimen of medal examined was signed by ‘Vaughton Birm’. This medal was found in the die impression records of the Bombay Mint suggesting the dies were made in England and perhaps it was first struck there with later strikings in Bombay. Specimen examined was awarded on edge: JOHN CONNON SCHOOL, DOROTHEA BOND. 1921. The Cathedral and John Connon schools were part of the Scottish Education Society.
